QSR Magazine says in, Welcome to the Rise of Drive-Thru-Only Restaurants, that even before COVID-19 restaurant operators were aware of the rising trends in consumer drive-thru use, as well as the increasing costs for labor, construction, energy, and real estate. (Read full article here)

It goes on to mention Taco John’s smaller drive-thru Olé outlets are being built with customized modular pieces on less land, costing roughly half of a traditional Taco John’s dine-in restaurant. Construction time is also shortened, because the modular pieces are fabricated at the same time site preparation is going on. Once shipped to the restaurant location the pieces can be put together in just a few days.

Currently 98% of QSR’s interested in working with Russo Modular are looking for drive-thru-centric units, and in some cases for the very first time. Many of these restaurant brands were previously only considering urban locations. Recently, they have also noticed an increased interest in rural sites with smaller communities as well. Russo said that they are hearing from restaurant brands and developers of all sizes. Restaurant operators have recognized the undeniable advantages of adding drive-thru units to their portfolio, along with the flexibility and efficiency of going modular, it’s a win- win.

It’s easy to see how modular building would be complementary to the growing drive-thru trends, and the solution to traditional construction and economic issues. Manufacturing allows significantly more control over the time, quality, and costs of a project along with a smaller footprint.
